Karly Montgomery

I can help you discover how to design the life you want.

It often is like discovering the magic in the ruby slippers Wizard of Oz… It was there all along, but we all have to discover something important first before you can get your heart’s desire.

See Karly in action...

As I am assembling materials, see for yourself how I think and communicate. Each video is from a different series, a different role, yet there these are all short investigations of how to better understand your self and your place in the world in a practical way.

Designer

By understanding how we perceive things on a screen, we can design better experiences. The bonus – Learn how to find a four-leaf clover!

Mentor

This video is an example of my coaching style. I was just there as a moderator, so you can scroll through to see how I interact with others to facilitate getting the best communication.

Inspiration

This is a chapter about how unusual things come about for an otherwise normal person -written by the woman who introduced Edgar Cayce to the world.

About Karly Montgomery

My life has always been focused on how to experience life as fully as possible which led to my career in designing experiences for things no one ever thought of before. Taking a vague concept and transforming it into something that becomes an easy reality.  (You can see the details below.) I am now using my skills and insights to help mentor people like you, who want something more in their lives – both the tangible things and those things that are hard to put into words. I have lived it – through many a success and also many unexpected, unwanted crises. Through each I learned wisdom, humility and devised practical ways to get from where I was to where I wanted to be. I can help you find this for yourself.

I never took the easy road. I always have stretched myself to learn wherever my curiosity takes me – from high tech design after starting out as a Food Scientist/Nutritionist with an interest in the inter-relationship of all things (That is, one cannot create new food products without understanding nutrition. To understand nutrition, you have to understand physiology. And then know about food choices which delves into psychology and culture. )

After writing my first book, BeautiFood, about food choices for a better quality of life.  I went one to become one of the first champions of Experience Design – with newsletters and as a speaker on how to design tech product so that they can actually be enjoyable to use. This led to key positions in the design of interactive television starting from “What can we do if we add internet to cable TV and phone services.” The teams I worked with did the groundbreaking work of many familiar ways we all use online media today.

In this process, I discovered how cognitive science could inform me of how people think and interact with the world (see Secrets of Icon Design below). I read the science, but to me it is about how do I use information to help people live the life they want? Early in my life, I discovered Astrology. This is another unexpected gem – where I realized it is the collected knowledge of some of the more intelligent people in the past four thousand years, as they worked to explain relationships between all sort of concepts that we experience over our lifetimes.

As an Experience Designer, this gave me a vocabulary for all sorts of concepts that are not really available to others.

And within it is an entire approach to life and our place in the universe, in addition to some of the best techniques to understand problems we face in daily life – the big stuff or the small stuff. As a designer, I found that the key to designing what you want lies in being able to understand what problem you are really trying to solve.

Life has taken me on quite a roller coaster ride. I have learned to continue to grow through facing my worst fears and oddities that life has to offer. This led to my current career as a Mentor for people wanting something more from life. Yeah, I did an intensive coaching program at Stanford University and have been mentoring now for several years.
